Think about how the BIOS lock and physical damage affect the grade.
Verify Your Work¶
- Go to Inventory Processing --> All Items
- Use the search bar to type
MXL9012GHI - Verify the record appears with the correct specs
- Search for
MXL3456JKLand verify that one too
Checkpoint¶
- Did you process two desktop computers?
- Did you note the different spec fields for desktops vs. laptops?
- Did you handle the BIOS lock and damage on the second desktop?
- Can you find both items in the All Items list?
Exercise 3: Receive Weighted Material (15 min)¶
Goal: Use the Quick Receive wizard to receive weighted materials with full attributes -- material type, color, form, grade, container, and weight.
Steps¶
- From the main Odoo dashboard, find and click Weighted Receiving
- Go to Operations --> Quick Receive
- You should see the Quick Receive form
- Fill in the following for a bale of clear plastic:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Material Type | Plastic (or the closest available option) |
| Color | Clear (or Natural, if available) |
| Form | Baled |
| Grade | (select the best available grade) |
| Container | (select an appropriate container -- note the tare weight that auto-fills) |
| Gross Weight | 1250 (this is the scale reading including the container) |
- Observe the Net Weight field -- it should calculate automatically by subtracting the tare weight
- Set a Location if the field is available (e.g.,
W-05) - Click Receive
- The system creates a new weighted item with a
WGT-YYYYMMDD-XXXXXbarcode
Now Receive a Second Item¶
Receive an aluminum item:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Material Type | Aluminum (or the closest available option) |
| Color | (leave blank or select Mixed) |
| Form | Loose |
| Grade | (select a grade) |
| Container | (select a container) |
| Gross Weight | 875 |
Verify Your Entries¶
- Go to Weighted Receiving --> Operations --> All Inventory
- Look for your two new entries -- they should be at the top of the list or findable by today's date
- Click one to see the full detail form
- Verify the net weight calculation is correct
Think About¶
- What happens if you select the wrong container type? The tare weight would be wrong, and the net weight would be inaccurate.
- Why do we track color, form, and grade? These attributes affect the material's value and determine which customers want to buy it.
Checkpoint¶
- Did you receive two weighted material items?
- Did the net weight calculate correctly for both?
- Can you find both items in the All Inventory list?
- Do you understand how the tare weight subtraction works?
Exercise 4: Simplified Recycling Receiving (10 min)¶
Goal: Use the simplified Receive Material wizard for fast, high-volume receiving with only three fields.
Steps¶
- Navigate to Weighted Receiving (Scott Recycling) --> Operations --> Receive Material
- You should see the simplified Receive Material form
- Receive a box of mixed material:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Material Type | (select any available type) |
| Container Type | Box |
| Gross Weight | 325 |
- Notice that the Tare Weight auto-fills to 75 lbs (the default for a box)
- The Net Weight should show 250 lbs (325 - 75)
- Click Receive
Now Receive a Pallet¶
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Material Type | (select any available type) |
| Container Type | Pallet |
| Gross Weight | 1500 |
Notice that the tare weight changes to 35 lbs for a pallet, giving a net weight of 1465 lbs.
Compare the Two Interfaces¶
Think about when you would use each receiving interface:
| Scenario | Which Interface |
|---|---|
| High-volume day, material just needs to be logged quickly | Simplified Recycling Receiving |
| Customer needs detailed attributes for pricing (color, form, grade) | Full Quick Receive |
| Standard mixed recycling that will be sorted later | Simplified Recycling Receiving |
| Specific baled material going directly to a buyer | Full Quick Receive |
Checkpoint¶
- Did you receive one box and one pallet?
- Did the tare weights auto-fill correctly (75 lbs for box, 35 lbs for pallet)?
- Do you understand when to use the simplified vs. full receiving interface?
Exercise 5: Create a Shipping Container (15 min)¶
Goal: Create a new shipping container, add items to it, and practice the weight verification workflow.
Steps¶
- From the main Odoo dashboard, find and click the Shipping app
- You should see the Shipping Containers list
- Click New to create a new container
- Fill in:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Customer | (select any available customer) |
| Sale Order | (select an available sale order if one exists, or skip) |
| Container Type | Box |
- Click Save -- a container barcode is generated automatically
- Now add items to the container:
- If you have processed reusable items in Exercises 1-2, try adding them by serial number
- If weighted items are available, try adding them by WGT barcode
- Observe the Item Count and Weight fields updating as you add items
Weight Verification¶
- With items in the container, look at the Weight field -- this is the expected weight based on the items inside
- Pretend you have weighed the container on a scale and the reading is close to the expected weight
- Enter the actual weight (you can use the expected weight or a slightly different number to see what happens)
- Click Verify
- If the weights match, the container is marked as Verified
- If there is a discrepancy, the system flags it -- in real life, you would investigate why
Create a Second Container¶
Create another container with a different container type (pallet). Practice the same workflow -- add items and verify the weight.
Think About¶
- Why is weight verification important? It catches missing items, wrong items, and packing errors before the container leaves the building.
- What would you do if the actual weight is significantly different from the expected weight?
Checkpoint¶
- Did you create at least one shipping container?
- Did you add items to the container?
- Did you practice the weight verification workflow?
- Do you understand what happens when weights do not match?
Exercise 6: Check Your KPIs (10 min)¶
Goal: Navigate to the KPI dashboard, find your performance metrics, and understand what the numbers mean.
Steps¶
- From the main Odoo dashboard, find and click SR Operations
- Click Operations Dashboard in the top menu
- You should see the main dashboard with summary cards at the top:
- Employees Working -- how many people are active today
- Overall Performance % -- team-wide performance
- Value Today -- total value processed
- Active Alerts -- number of unresolved alerts
- Look through the department tabs:
- Click Laptop/Device to see laptop processing metrics
- Click Inventory/WIP to see current backlog levels
- Find your name (warehouse1) in the list -- check your performance percentage and status color
- Now click My Performance in the top menu
- This shows only your KPI records -- review your daily numbers
Explore the Views¶
- Try switching between List, Kanban, and Graph views
- In List view, try the quick filters:
- Click Today to see only today's records
- Click This Week to see the full week
- Try Group By --> Status to see records grouped by performance level (Above Target, On Track, Below Target)
Build Your Routine¶
Your daily KPI check should look like this:
| Time | Action | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | Check yesterday's final numbers, note alerts | SR Operations --> Dashboard |
| Midday | Check progress toward today's target | SR Operations --> My Performance |
| End of Day | Review final numbers, note any issues | SR Operations --> My Performance |
Checkpoint¶
- Can you find the SR Operations app and the Dashboard?
- Can you find your name and performance metrics on the Dashboard?
- Do you know how to navigate to My Performance?
- Do you understand the green/yellow/red status colors?
