Daily Routine

Morning (Start of Shift)

  1. Clock in — use the Attendance app or time clock
  2. Check your station — make sure your workstation is clean, tools are ready, and PPE is on
  3. Review WIP (Work in Progress) — check what is in your queue from yesterday that needs to be finished
  4. Check the day's priorities — talk to your supervisor about any rush jobs, special processing needs, or schedule changes
  5. Start processing — begin working through your assigned devices, boxes, or materials

Midday

  1. Weight verification — if you are working containers or shipping, verify weights on any containers nearing completion
  2. Staging — move completed items to the correct staging location (use Portal Inventory for scanning)
  3. Mid-day KPI check — open SR Operations to see your count so far — are you on pace?
  4. Communicate — if you are running behind, low on materials, or have a problem, tell your supervisor now rather than at end of day

Afternoon

  1. Continue processing — push to meet your daily targets
  2. Clean your station — at the end of your shift, clean your workstation, put tools away, and dispose of waste properly
  3. Log final counts — make sure all devices processed, boxes sorted, or drives wiped are logged in the system
  4. Final KPI check — open SR Operations → My Performance and see your final numbers
  5. Report issues — if any equipment needs maintenance or you found something unusual (hazmat, damaged items), report it before you leave

Safety Procedures

PPE Requirements

Station / Task Required PPE
General warehouse Closed-toe shoes, safety glasses
Disassembly Closed-toe shoes, safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, dust mask
Hard drive processing Closed-toe shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection (if using shredder)
CRT monitor handling Closed-toe shoes, safety glasses, heavy-duty gloves — CRT glass contains lead
Battery handling Closed-toe shoes, safety glasses, chemical-resistant gloves
Sorting line Closed-toe shoes, safety glasses, gloves
Toner/printer work Closed-toe shoes, safety glasses, gloves, dust mask — toner dust is a respiratory hazard
Lifting heavy items Use a dolly or ask for help for anything over 50 lbs

Hazardous Material Handling

Material Hazard Procedure
CRT monitors Lead in glass, vacuum implosion risk Handle with care, do not drop or break. Wear gloves and safety glasses. Store upright.
Batteries (lithium-ion) Fire, chemical burn, swelling/explosion Check for swelling before handling. Do NOT puncture. Store in designated battery containers away from heat.
Toner cartridges Respiratory irritation from fine toner dust Do not blow out cartridges. Use a dust mask. Clean spills with a damp cloth, not a vacuum.
Mercury switches/lamps Mercury vapor exposure Do not break. Place in sealed mercury container. Notify supervisor if breakage occurs.
Capacitors (large) Electrical shock — may hold charge after unplugging Do not touch terminals. Let qualified staff discharge before handling.
Refrigerants (AC units) Ozone-depleting, pressurized Do not puncture or disassemble refrigerant-containing units. Set aside for certified handling.

When In Doubt, Ask

If you encounter a material you do not recognize or are unsure how to handle safely, stop and ask your supervisor. Never guess with hazardous materials.

Quality Standards Quick Reference

Quality Check Standard
Device grading Follow the grading rubric exactly — A (like new), B (minor wear), C (functional with cosmetic issues), D (parts only)
Data destruction All drives must be wiped or destroyed before a device leaves the facility. No exceptions.
Weight accuracy Container weights must be within 5% of the recorded weight. Re-weigh if the difference is larger.
Sorting accuracy Materials must go to the correct commodity stream. Contamination (wrong material in a container) reduces value.
Labeling Every container and pallet must be labeled with contents, weight, date, and processor initials.
Photos Take photos of unusual items, high-value devices, and anything that needs manager review.
