Recycling Receiving

Overview

Recycling Receiving is the simplified, high-volume receiving interface for warehouse staff. It is designed for speed when detailed material attributes (color, form, grade) are not needed. You only need to select a Material Type and a Container Type (Box or Pallet), enter the gross weight, and the system does the rest.

Tare weights are pre-set: Box = 75 lbs, Pallet = 35 lbs. The net weight is computed automatically.

All items received through Recycling Receiving are stored in the same inventory system as full Weighted Receiving, so they appear in the All Inventory list and can be added to sales lists.

Fields

Field Description Required?
Company The receiving company Yes (auto-filled)
Material Type Dropdown with available material categories Yes
Container Type Radio button: Box or Pallet Yes
Gross Weight Total weight including the container (from the scale) Yes
Tare Weight Auto-filled based on Container Type (Box: 75 lbs, Pallet: 35 lbs) Auto
Net Weight Automatically computed: Gross Weight minus Tare Weight Auto

How It Works

  1. Select the Material Type from the dropdown
  2. Choose Box or Pallet as the Container Type
  3. Enter the Gross Weight from the scale
  4. The Tare Weight fills in automatically (75 lbs for Box, 35 lbs for Pallet)
  5. The Net Weight is computed automatically
  6. Click Receive to create the inventory item

The item is created with a WGT-YYYYMMDD-XXXXX barcode and an initial status of Received, the same as full Weighted Receiving.

Received Materials List

After receiving, view all materials received through this interface in the Received Materials list.

Tips

Use Recycling Receiving for High-Volume Days

When processing large volumes of incoming material, the simplified Recycling Receiving form lets you move quickly. You only need to set three fields: Material Type, Container Type, and Gross Weight.

Data Feeds Into the Same System

Items received through Recycling Receiving appear in the full Weighted Receiving All Inventory list. If you need to add attributes (color, form, grade) later, open the item from All Inventory and edit it there.

Verify Tare Weights Match Your Containers

The pre-set tare weights (Box: 75 lbs, Pallet: 35 lbs) are defaults. If your containers differ significantly, use the full Weighted Receiving interface where container tare weights are configurable.

Troubleshooting

Issue: Net weight seems incorrect after receiving

Symptom: The computed net weight in the Received Materials list does not match what you expected based on the material you weighed. Cause: The tare weight deducted may not match the actual container weight. Recycling Receiving uses fixed tare weights (Box = 75 lbs, Pallet = 35 lbs). If your actual container weighs significantly more or less than the preset, the net weight will be off. Fix: 1. Check which Container Type you selected -- did you select Box (75 lbs tare) when you meant Pallet (35 lbs tare), or vice versa? 2. If you selected the correct container type but your physical container weighs differently than the preset (e.g., your box weighs 40 lbs instead of 75 lbs), the fixed tare weights in Recycling Receiving will not match 3. For containers with non-standard weights, use the full Weighted Receiving → Quick Receive wizard instead, where you can select a specific container type with a configurable tare weight 4. If the item was already received with the wrong net weight, open it from the Received Materials list, then navigate to All Inventory in Weighted Receiving to edit the weights directly (warehouse lead or manager access may be required)

Issue: Wrong material type selected during receiving

Symptom: After receiving, you notice the item in the Received Materials list shows the wrong material type (e.g., you received Aluminum but it shows as Copper). Cause: The wrong material type was selected from the dropdown before clicking Receive. The simplified interface moves fast, and it is easy to accidentally select an adjacent dropdown option. Fix: 1. Open the item from the Received Materials list by clicking on its row 2. From the item detail view, navigate to the full item record in Weighted Receiving → All Inventory (search by the WGT barcode) 3. Edit the Material Type field to the correct material 4. Save the record 5. To prevent this, always verify the Material Type dropdown selection before clicking Receive, especially when processing multiple items quickly

Issue: Scale is not working or displaying errors

Symptom: The physical scale is not turning on, displaying an error code, showing wildly fluctuating numbers, or will not stabilize on a reading. Cause: Scale hardware issue -- could be a power problem, calibration drift, overload, debris on the platform, or environmental interference (vibration, airflow). Fix: 1. Check that the scale is plugged in and powered on 2. Remove everything from the scale platform and zero/tare the scale 3. Check for debris, small items, or moisture on the platform 4. Ensure the scale is on a level, stable surface away from fans, vents, or heavy equipment vibration 5. If the scale shows an error code, refer to the scale manufacturer's manual or the label on the scale for the meaning 6. If the scale will not calibrate or stabilize, tag it as out of service and use a different scale 7. Report the issue to maintenance for repair or replacement

Issue: Received item does not appear in the Received Materials list

Symptom: You clicked Receive and the wizard appeared to complete successfully, but the item does not show in the Received Materials list. Cause: The receive action may not have saved properly (browser timeout, network interruption), or the item may be there but filtered out of the current view. Fix: 1. Clear all filters on the Received Materials list and sort by Receive Date (newest first) -- the item may be there but hidden by a filter 2. Search by today's date to narrow down recent receives 3. If the item is truly not in the list, it was not saved. Re-enter it through the Receive Material wizard. 4. If you are unsure whether the item saved, check Weighted Receiving → All Inventory as well -- items received through Recycling Receiving also appear there

Issue: Need to add color, form, or grade to an item received through Recycling Receiving

Symptom: You received material through the simplified Recycling Receiving interface, but now a sales list or customer requires the detailed attributes (color, form, grade) that are not captured in this interface. Cause: Recycling Receiving is designed for speed and omits optional attributes. Some downstream processes (certain customers, specific sales lists) may require these details. Fix: 1. Find the item in Weighted Receiving → All Inventory by searching for the WGT barcode or filtering by receive date and material type 2. Open the item detail form 3. Add the Color, Form, and Grade attributes as needed 4. Save the record 5. The item now has full attributes and can be used in any sales list or reporting context that requires them
