Weighted Materials

Overview

The Weighted Materials system at Scott Recycling manages the full lifecycle of materials received, stored, and sold by weight -- plastics, metals, recyclables, and other bulk commodities. Unlike reusable electronics (tracked individually by serial number), weighted materials are tracked by weight with material attributes such as type, color, form, and grade.

This documentation covers three interconnected systems that work together: receiving materials into inventory, and then selling and shipping them to customers.

Systems Overview

System Guide Description Primary Audience
Weighted Receiving Weighted Receiving Full-featured receiving with material attributes (type, color, form, grade), inventory lifecycle management, auto-assignment rules, and export tools. Use this when you need detailed material tracking. Warehouse Leads, Managers
Recycling Receiving Recycling Receiving Simplified, high-volume receiving for warehouse staff. Only requires material type and container type (Box or Pallet) with pre-set tare weights. Designed for speed when detailed attributes are not needed. Warehouse Staff
Sales Lists Sales Lists Unified sales list management that combines weighted materials and reusable items into customer-facing lists. Includes auto-generation rules, shipping manifests, and one-click sales order and invoice creation. Sales Staff, Shipping Staff, Managers

How the Systems Connect

Receiving (Weighted or Recycling)
        ↓
  Inventory (Received → Available)
        ↓
  Sales Lists (Reserved → In Sales)
        ↓
  Shipping Manifests (Sold → Shipped)
  1. Materials enter inventory through either Weighted Receiving (detailed) or Recycling Receiving (simplified)
  2. Both systems store items in the same underlying inventory, so all received materials appear in the All Inventory list
  3. When materials are ready to sell, they are added to Sales Lists alongside any reusable electronics
  4. Sales lists generate sales orders, invoices, and Shipping Manifests for delivery tracking
